The Maserati Trident was born in the heart of Bologna and remains one of the most iconic symbols of Italian automotive history.
When Alfieri Maserati was searching for a symbol for his company, Marquis Diego de Sterlich suggested the Trident, inspired by the famous Neptune statue in Piazza Maggiore. A powerful emblem representing strength, elegance, and Italian identity.
During the brand’s early years, Maserati used red and blue, colors deeply connected to the history of Bologna. Later, after moving to Modena, the famous Maserati Blue emerged and became one of the brand’s most recognizable elements.
The Maserati family story began in 1887 in Voghera, northern Italy, with the birth of Alfieri Maserati, one of six brothers united by a passion for mechanics.
Everything started thanks to the eldest brother Carlo, who transformed an old bicycle into a motorized machine faster than a horse. That moment sparked the Maserati brothers’ passion for speed, innovation, and engineering.
After working for companies such as Isotta Fraschini and FIAT, and following Carlo’s premature death in 1910, the brothers promised to stay together and continue pursuing the dream they shared.
Alfieri later founded Officine Alfieri Maserati in Bologna, creating a brand destined to become a global symbol of engineering excellence, Italian creativity, and elegance.
Through racing victories, business challenges, and historical events, Maserati evolved into one of the most admired names in the international automotive industry.
Stories like this remind us how craftsmanship, determination, and industrial culture helped shape the global identity of Made in Italy.
